Problem

I had no idea how to model human beings and felt it would be a good idea to learn the basics

Solution

I researched how to model a human in blender, sketched it to the best of my ability, box modelled it and learned to sculpt.

Product

I sketched an example of a human body to get an understanding of measurements of arms legs etc. and figured out that all of the extremities are pretty much ovals.

Then I box modelled the rough shape that looked like a slightly more detailed Minecraft steve. I applied a subdivision surface modifier to round it out and add more topology for sculpting.

I used an example of the ideal male physique and set up a little booth with 2 images to line the camera up with the X and the Y to pull the topology along the image’s guidelines.

Additional details

  • I used zygote body as an anatomy reference.
  • He likes to watch cat videos.
  • I should’ve made him T-pose.
